Summary:

Auto repair site transformed into kidney dialysis clinic

Hunzinger was called upon by Midwest Dialysis Center to construct their 11th and largest kidney dialysis clinic to date. Midwest Dialysis Center purchased an existing building that previously housed multiple auto dealerships, an engine and transmission company, and other automobile related businesses in its history. This project was to turn an existing building, which many people have referred to as "an eye sore in the community," into a beautiful and fully functional dialysis clinic as well as office space for nephrologists and two future tenants.

Several key structural "fixes" were uncovered during demolition that required correction. Unforseen environmental issues (unknown underground tanks, oil and water separators) needed to be quickly removed from the site. Additionally, contaminated soil needed to be remediated during construction. Throughout this process, construction of the facility continued with no significant changes to the project schedule.

The result is a fully functional 11,400 square foot dialysis clinic with 19 stations and doctors offices as well as 9,700 square feet of space on the first floor for future tenants and 5,800 square feet of unoccupied space on the 2nd floor - a total of 26,900 square feet - in what appears to be a brand new building.
