Mayfair Mall is located at 2500 North Mayfair Road in Wauwatosa, WI.  Hunzinger Construction Company originally built Mayfair Mall in 1958 and since that time, has been back to spearhead many renovations and additions.  Mayfair Mall boasts one of the highest occupancy rates in the country, as well as, significantly above average sales per square foot. The mall contains over 180 stores and is anchored by Macys, Boston Store, and soon to be completed Nordstrom, as well as housing an 18 screen, AMC Theater.  Hunzinger served as general contractor for a major 160,000 SF renovation and addition of a second story retail level and new 60,000 SF, six-story office building.  New escalators were installed and structural steel was erected on top of the existing framework as well as through existing spaces. Hunzinger also transformed the center atrium from a skating rink into a showcase center court.

Hunzinger undertook another extensive multi-year renovation. Project elements included the addition of about 170,000 SF of interior shopping space on the first and second levels for 30 to 40 stores. The food court was doubled from its previous seating capacity, and 12,000 SF was added to the Talbot’s store and another 114,000 SF of mall space was renovated.  All this work was done in a fully functioning mall without disruption to the shopping experience. Carroll & Associates based in Illinois was the project designer.

Hunzinger’s relationship with General Growth Properties, Mayfair Mall, and their on-site electrician, Lemberg Electric, continued with a much-needed upgrade to the electrical service. Hunzinger was responsible for general construction work around the installation of the new electrical equipment.  Work performed by Hunzinger included concrete, masonry, carpentry, and drywall to build nine new electrical rooms to house large electrical equipment.

“The massive renovation and addition at Mayfair in 2000, is really the mall that everyone is familiar with today. We added the entire second floor and that multi-story center court with the glass elevator. We did that entire addition and renovation while the mall remained open for shoppers. I am so proud that we did not miss a single shopping day throughout the entire project! We worked shifts with the structural steel work being done at night and the finish work like painting and laying carpet and tile during the day, always separated from the shoppers. Our crews loved working in the mall and we were even asked to help with security on busy movie nights, our crews loved it.”
