On Wednesday, October 8th the employees of Hunzinger Construction Company got together for a special cookout to wish Michael Hunzinger all the best as he reports to The Basic School (TBS) in Quantico, Virginia. Michael begins his first assignment as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps on October 14th. The lunch was a chance for all of us to express our appreciation for Michael’s willingness to serve our country and a cause greater than himself.
Over 45 attended the luncheon of Michael’s favorites including Black Angus Burgers, Hotdogs, baked beans, the heavily requested “special” potato salad, pasta salad, a host of different chips with salsa and guacamole.
John Hunzinger, President of Hunzinger Construction Company and Michael’s father, thanked everyone in attendance and expressed his gratitude to Michael for his willingness to serve his country. John shared how proud he is that Michael has become such a fine young man, and that he admires his selflessness.
Michael has been working at Hunzinger since May when he graduated from Colorado State University with a bachelor’s degree, having double majored in Economics and History. Upon his graduation, he was commissioned in the Marines but awaited his orders to report to Quantico.
During his time back at the company, Michael worked in the shop and yard with Danny Oderman where he made deliveries, kept the shop incredibly clean (it was clearly evident that a Marine was working there) and helped out on large concrete pours. He would step up and do whatever was being asked of him and brought a positive attitude to work every day. The employees at Hunzinger wish him the best as he pursues his lifelong dream, a career in the Marines.
For Marine Officers, their first alssignment after earning their commission is at The Basic School (TBS) in Quantico, VA. In this intense six-month program, they build on the skills learned as an officer candidate to turn leadership potential into command experience. They begin specialized training to develop expertise in their chosen, or assigned, Military Occupational Specialty. Upon completion of TBS, Michael will serve his 4 year commitment to the Marine Corps.
We are so proud of Michael’s accomplishments. Michael’s commitment to serving our Country, through his Marine Corps services makes all of us proud to know him. We are thrilled to have had Michael work with us at Hunzinger. We wish him a very safe stint in the Marine Corps. Godspeed!
