Building The Future Together

Hunzinger Construction Company recently completed a stunning new main entry addition to the CUNA Mutual Group Corporate World Headquarters located at 5910 Mineral Point Road in Madison, WI.  Hunzinger was awarded the project following a competitive process against several Madison area general contractors. Hunzinger acted as Construction Manager/General Contractor for the project which consisted of demolition of the existing entrance and construction of a new 2,195 SF grand entry. The project also included full renovation of approximately 8,000 SF, including the lobby, pre-function, guest lounge, restrooms, atrium impromptu rooms and conference room areas. Exterior renovation included approximately 30,000 SF of reconfigured exterior hardscape and landscaping.

The architectural team was selected following a design competition that invited 5 premier A/E firms to present their vision for a modern, user friendly and accessible gateway into CUNA Mutual Group. The architectural firm of Hammel, Green & Abrahamson (HGA) was awarded the project.  The project was jointly designed and managed by the HGA Minneapolis and Milwaukee offices. The HGA design includes a bold 2,195 square foot glass and steel addition that seamlessly ties into the classic lines and materials of the existing building. The entry vestibule leads into an open and welcoming space that offers spectacular views and finishes, as well as new technology and client interface areas.  When visitors arrive at the campus, there is a clear transition from entry, to reception, to interactive displays and finally, to the 4-story atrium where employees, guests and clients are guided on their way to glass elevators that lead to the new Customer Experience Room which is located on the 4th floor – directly adjacent to the newly renovated executive suite.  The new entry, lobby, atrium pathway dynamically improves the employee and visitor experience as they enter and traverse the headquarters facility.

The reconfigured exterior hardscape and landscaping includes over 30,000 square feet of site work consisting of a new concrete and asphalt circle drive area, adjacent parking, convenient ADA accessible ramps and doors and new multi-tiered planters and landscape areas.

The project was completed within budget and Hunzinger self-performed work included interior demolition, exterior hardscape and all rough and finish carpentry work utilizing union labor from the Madison area.  Hunzinger is very proud of our valued and ongoing relationship with CUNA Mutual Group, dating back to the Facility Improvement Project that started in 2000.  We are honored to have served CUNA Mutual Group as self-performing construction managers for over 15 years.

CUNA Mutual Group will be dedicating their new space on January 27th to celebrate their 80th anniversary.
