Building The Future Together

Hunzinger Construction Company has started work on Phase II of the Milwaukee School of Engineering Grohmann Tower Apartments located at 1150 North Water Street, Milwaukee, WI.  Hunzinger was hired as construction manager on Phase II upon completion of Phase I of Grohmann Tower.  The school purchased the Staybridge Suites which stood unfinished and almost entirely vacant since 2009 when financial problems halted construction of the planned hotel.  The site remained dormant while a long legal battle ensued as contractors and lenders fought to recover money from the failed project.  Hunzinger’s work on Phase I began last February and included 102 units and were completed by September 1, 2014 for the fall quarter.

Uihlein Wilson Architects, located in downtown Milwaukee, was the project architect for both phases of this complex conversion that is part renovation and part new construction.  Hunzinger is once again self-performing selective demolition, concrete, and rough and finish carpentry work.  We are currently working on the remaining floors, 10-14, and will complete the additional 50 units in August of 2015, once again in time for the fall quarter.  The Grohmann Tower includes ground floor retail, a 2-level parking garage, common student areas and Studio, 1-bedroom and 2-bedroom apartments that come fully furnished including all utilities (heat, air conditioning, electricity and water), as well as, a full kitchen and bathroom.

Hunzinger recently coordinated the installation on the Water Street northeast corner elevation of the 28 foot high and 80 foot long curved rooftop building signs bookended by two 16 by 16 foot roof topper MSOE signs. Sign Effectz Inc. and Midwest Stairs & Iron of Milwaukee, Uihlein Electric of Brookfield and Ideal Crane Rental Inc. based in Wauwatosa along with Hunzinger all contributed to the rooftop sign’s installation.
