Becher Court Elderly Housing Community is located in 18th and Becher Street on the south side of Milwaukee, WI. We served as both the Construction Manager and General Contractor to the Housing Authority of the City of Milwaukee for this 6 story double-winged addition containing 120 living units. Potter Lawson Architects of Madison designed the addition which totaled 98,000 square feet.
Becher Court offers independent affordable housing to seniors and now connects to Becher Terrace which offers 24-hour nursing and residential services. The connection is made via a two-story common area that includes a spacious lobby, general store, library, exercise room, dining area and more.
The tight urban site was a challenge because we were building a six story project within a very residential neighborhood that was surrounded by two story homes. We were very sensitive to the neighboring residents and worked closely with them to make sure that traffic patterns were not disturbed and major deliveries were coordinated to keep disruptions to a minimum. From a job safety standpoint, we were very proactive to make sure that curious children didn’t enter the construction site and all the workers were respectful of the neighborhood. Overall the project was a huge success.”
