Ozaukee County Justice Facility is located at 1201 South Spring Street in Port Washington, WI. Hunzinger Construction Company served as the Construction Manager Advisor. Hunzinger was hired to replace a national construction management firm that had failed to properly manage the project’s budget and program.
The Ozaukee County Board decided to bring Hunzinger onto the project to rebuild the taxpayer’s trust on this very high profile public project. Eppstein Uhen Architects in Milwaukee were the project architects on the 100,000 square foot new two-story facility that included courtrooms, the Office of the County Clerk and other administrative and judicial support offices.
Through proper calculations Hunzinger was able to cut over $1 million from the original $16 million budget. Hunzinger steered the team to make smart material changes to improve functionality and greatly improve the efficiency while reducing the project cost.
Trust was restored and Hunzinger was hired to do additional renovations and updates to the Ozaukee County Justice Facility.
We were hired after a national construction management firm had failed to control the budget and mishandled the programming so obviously the client was skeptical of “contractors” but within a couple weeks on the job, we had pointed out to the client some cost saving opportunities, we created a more efficient program and were able to solicit bids from reputable subcontractors. Very quickly, we had earned the county board’s trust and I felt great knowing that we had saved the taxpayers many hundreds of thousands of dollars.
