The BMO Harris Bradley Center is located at 1001 North 4thStreet in downtown Milwaukee, WI. Hunzinger Construction Company was hired as the prime concrete contractor for this premier athletics and concert venue. Hunzinger crews poured 24,000 cubic yards of concrete for The Bradley Center that accommodates 18,600 fans for basketball, 17,800 for hockey, and up to 20,000 for concerts.
The project challenges included working in close proximity to busy city streets and excavating down to the subsurface level on three sides of the complex up to the lot lines of the property. Working within the footprint of the square city block was required because the parking and drive lanes needed to remain open and operational in order to minimize the disruption to municipal utilities necessitating the use of an earth retention system. Once this system was in place, Hunzinger’s team was able to focus their attention on the complex “super flat” ice rink concrete slab and the concrete super-structure.
