MAYFAIR MALL NORDSTROM PAD, CONNECTOR LINK AND PARKING STRUCTURE

Restaurant and Retail

Mayfair Mall Nordstrom Pad, Connector Link and Parking Structure is located at 2500 N Mayfair Rd, Wauwatosa, WI on the east side of the mall near Boston Store.  Hunzinger was selected as the general contractor for the massive utility and site preparation work and 50,000 SF foundation pad placement for the Nordstrom Department Store that will open in October of 2015.  Hunzinger met the deadline for pad turn over on August 1, 2014 so that work could begin on the 15 month Nordstrom building project.  Hunzinger’s work also included a significant 80,000 SF renovation and 20,000 SF addition to the mall to create a new concourse connection with Nordstrom.  The southeast section of Mayfair Mall being renovated features new spaces for Pac Sun, Wet Seal, Ann Taylor Loft and Athleta stores among others in addition to the new connector concourse.  FRCH Design Worldwide of Cincinnati, OH is the project architect for all the work.

Our work at Mayfair Mall also included building a new 630 stall two-level parking structure east of Boston Store to replace the surface parking lot spaces displaced by the mall additions.  This fast track project, with the holiday shopping seasons acting as book ends of the schedule, was built with very minimal interruption to shopping patterns and no loss of shopping hours. This project also included constructing a second building pad fronting the North Avenue section of the mall property that was prepared for The Container Store scheduled to open in the third quarter of 2015.

The key to our success on this project was the aggressive schedule we were able to establish and meet even with the challenges of an unusually wet spring. Despite the harsh weather conditions, we were able to meet every milestone date established by the owner. The pad for The Container Store was built using Geopiers, a Rammed Aggregate Pier System that allowed us to get sufficient load bearing capacity without digging out 17 feet of dirt and replacing it with engineered fill. The 366 piers were 10 to 17 feet deep and provided a cost and time saving alternative to a massive excavation and utility relocation.
